3D effect-based assessment of direct emissions for the eco-sustainability of wastewater management strategies (3D WWTP TOX)
The project aims to look at the overall toxicity of wastewater treatment facility emissions (liquid, solid, and air matrices). A series of traditional and innovative eco-toxicological tests will be defined and performed on samples to assess the effect of the treatment and the eventual residual toxicity, which traditional chemical-physical analysis cannot determine, considering the combined effects of substances and emerging contaminants. For the first time, a method to assess air emissions toxicity would be developed and tested at a real scale, to fill the knowledge gap in determining human toxicity impacts to be used for risk assessment.
