Once upon a time, a ragtag gang of troublemakers wandered the New York University campus, searching for an outlet to which they could dedicate their vast surplus of time and energy. Unknown to one another, they each separately came across notices for a student-run theater club called SHMUTZ (Yes, that's what it was called), a no-frills, no-nonsense, pure and simple theatre company which allowed all students of any age or major to participate in theatre as an extracurricular activity. Now that we have moved on from the confines of the college campus and progressed to the suffocation of adult life, we simply aim to offer others the opportunity to perform. We know that there are many young adults throughout New York who carry this passion around with them in search of an outlet. Our mission at 5th Floor Productions is to provide emerging young professionals creative opportunities in productions that put a contemporary spin on classic and modern works.
