ABIES Doctoral School (n°581, Agriculture, Food Biology, Environment, Health) trains and supports about 320 doctoral candidates each year. It is co-accredited by Université Paris-Saclay, AgroParisTech, Université Reims Champagne-Ardenne and the École Nationale Vétérinaire d’Alfort (ENVA). Doctoral research is carried out in more tha 50 different research units throughout France, accompanied by more thant 700 supervisors affiliated to ABIES. A third of the doctoral candidates are coming from abroad and around twenty of the PhDs are under joint supervision with a foreign university. ABIES as a strong link with the business world with more than 50 doctoral candidates (representing 15% of total) being funded through a CIFRE scheme or directly by a private company. More than 80 theses are defended each year, and doctoral candidates find employment in academic sector as well as in companies or the national administration, where they use the skills developed during their PhD. ABIES encourages cross-disciplinary exchanges between doctoral candidates working on a large range of topics, from agro-ecology, microbiology, nutrition, soil and landscape sciences or biotechnologies to applied mathematics or social and management sciences. These exchanges take place during training courses, the ABIES doctoral days or Doc’Avenir, our day dedicated to the professional development of doctors.
