Active Fund Strategies is the brainchild of its President/CEO Jeff McTague, a long-time wholesaler of mutual funds and annuities. In 1997, Jeff pondered the question "Why them?" That is, why do financial advisors get selected to be the stewards of investors’ financial future. After all, there are probably hundreds, if not thousands of financial advisors in their marketplace. So, why did the clients choose them? Since FAs cannot prove why prospects should select them, Jeff believed they were chosen for one of two very arbitrary reasons. The prospects either (1) liked them or (2) trusted them. With one of the most important decisions a person will ever make, the decision became a leap of faith, almost as arbitrary as a coin toss! Jeff believed that if he could develop a client presentation completely supported by fact, and Advisors adopted that presentation, Jeff knew THOSE Advisors would gain a serious upper hand in the competition for clients. Now, all he had to do was create and PROVE there was such a presentation. In short, that is exactly what he did! And by 1998, our business ACTIVE FUND STRATEGIES was born. . . . The hub of our business is the $17 trillion mutual fund industry, and to develop this fact-based presentation, Jeff's first focus was on mutual fund selection. In spite of the disclaimer that says “past performance is no guarantee of future performance,” the number one criterion in fund selection remains past performance. Jeff's research proved that even long-term past performance is a failure as a fund selection tool, which begged the question "If you cannot pick funds based on past performance, how then should you select funds?" Jeff's continuing research discovered that successful mutual funds have 11 common traits. Beginning in 1998, Jeff traveled the country for ten years, delivering this eye-opening process to Advisors from firms like AG Edwards, Janney Montgomery Scott, Legg Mason, McDonald & Co, Morgan Keegan, Nations Securities, Raymond James, RBC Dain Rauscher, Robert W. Baird, SunTrust, UBS and Wachovia. Creating the website in 2008 gave us the ability to reach even more people, including a whole new generation of Advisors.
