African Biodiversity Network (ABN) Overview

Vision: Resilient African communities living in harmony with Nature Mission: To nurture an African network of individuals, communities, and organizations, increasingly rooted in their own biological, cultural and spiritual diversity; governing their own lives and livelihoods; with the ability to resist harmful developments and influence laws and practices that respect the rights of people and Nature. The African Biodiversity Network (ABN) is an African network of individuals and organizations seeking African solutions to the ecological and socio-economic challenges that face the continent. We strive to grow and nurture an African network of individuals, communities, and organisations, increasingly rooted in their own biological, cultural and spiritual diversity. With the capability to govern their own lives and livelihoods. Our work is structured on 4 thematic areas; 1. Community Seed and Knowledge: We work with communities, who teach and train us on how to preserve their indigenous seed, and teach them agro-ecological practices. 2. Youth Culture and Biodiversity: Deepen peoples’ sense of belonging, with one another and with the earth in order to restore confidence eroded over years of marginalization of indigenous ecological knowledge and practices. 3. Community Ecological Governance: We work closely with elders within communities so that they can pass down the ecological knowledge and customs practiced over generations. 4. Advocacy and communication and network practice and Development: We recognize the importance of working in collaboration with others so that we create meaningful and wider impact. Our Methodologies involve: -Community Dialogue -Community Ecological Mapping -Community Seed Bank -Inter/Intra-generational learning between young people and elders -Community Learning Exchange -Experiential Nature Learning
