African Telemedicine Network (ATN) is an organization established in the US to bring African healthcare professionals under one platform that will utilize digital health technology to improve access to quality healthcare services on the continent. Under this umbrella organization, there will be chapter organizations, such as the Ethiopian Telemedicine Network, Rwandan Telemedicine Network, Kenyan Telemedicine network, etc., that will be used to build local digital health capacity.
African Telemedicine Network works closely with various local and international organizations, health authorities, and regulators to craft guidelines and regulations that will standardize the use of digital health technology in Africa. We will work with African CDC or other relevant organizations closely to introduce we can explore ways to introduce one central licensing authority that will enable African healthcare professionals to practice digital health anywhere on the continent, removing existing territorial barriers.
Some of the objectives are:
Improve delivery of standardized primary healthcare services to patients eliminating the need for patients to travel to see healthcare providers, which could be time-consuming and capital-intensive.
Create access for African patients to specialty services otherwise unavailable in their respective localities or countries.
Create employment opportunities for African healthcare professionals from the comfort of their homes or offices, which, in turn, could reverse the brain drain.
Standardize healthcare services on the continent.
