Eating and swallowing are tasks that occur without much thought for most people. However, certain medical conditions and diseases can cause swallowing difficulties (dysphagia), impacting a person’s quality of life and often increasing caregiver burden. Our research, led by Dr. Ashwini Namasivayam-MacDonald, PhD, SLP(C), CCC-SLP, Reg. CASLPO, focuses on swallowing difficulties in older adults. Through our research, we seek to better understand the nature of swallowing difficulties across different conditions, different factors that influence swallowing difficulties and the best ways to support adults living with swallowing difficulties and their caregivers.
