A commonly stated assumption is that Kenya does not receive enough rainfall to sustain rainfed farming. Evidence shows otherwise; most of the Rift Valley receives over 1000 mm of rain per year; whereas 300mm is sufficient to produce a crop. Some parts of the country receive nearly 2000mm per year. The rainfall assumption is incorrect.
Agventure has tackled this problem by focusing on diversifying cropping systems; identifying alternative crops, learning how to grow them and building markets for those crops.
