O ΑΙΟΛΙΚΟΣ ιδρύθηκε στις 17 Αυγούστου 1975 έπειτα από τη συγχώνευση δύο ιστορικών ομάδων της πόλης της Μυτιλήνης, του Άτλαντα και του Απόλλωνα, που μέχρι τότε πρωταγωνιστούσαν σε τοπικό επίπεδο.
Σήμα της ομάδας έγινε η ασπίδα, την οποία πλαισιώνουν δύο φύλλα δάφνης. Τα χρώματα που καθιερώθηκαν, ήταν το μπλε και το άσπρο του Απόλλωνα, ενώ το κίτρινο και το μαύρο του Άτλαντα συμπλήρωναν υποστηρικτικά.
Ο «ΑΙΟΛΙΚΟΣ» είναι μια έννοια που απηχεί στο συναίσθημα του νησιού, περιέχοντας τις λέξεις Αιγαίο, Μικρασία, Ελλάδα, Λέσβος.

AIOLIKOS was founded on August 17, 1975 after the merger of two historical teams of the city of Mytilene, Atlas and Apollon, which until then had been the protagonists at the local level.
The team's logo became the shield, flanked by two laurel leaves. The colors that were established were the blue and white of Apollo, while the yellow and black of Atlas were complementary.
"AIOLIKOS" is a concept that echoes the feeling of the island, containing the words Aegean, Asia Minor, Greece, Lesvos.
