AIPA aims at serving as a platform for users and practitioners of international arbitration (in-house counsel, arbitrators, lawyers, experts) to reflect on and, if feasible, develop, innovative procedural methods. Indeed, in this field there is an underlying, if not outspoken, concern that speed, efficiency and cost control must be improved. Hybridization efforts in both the civil law and common law systems have reached their limits, and it is AIPA’s conviction that improvement of arbitration’s efficiency is to be found in innovation of commonly practiced international arbitral proceedings (without artificial defunct distinction between common law and civil law approaches).
As a first step, AIPA promulgates contractual Rules on Technical Assistance in International Arbitration intended to be used, if need be, by arbitral tribunals, as a means to obtain a better understanding of complex technical matters.
