AIR-URBAN (TED2021-130210A-I00) is a project funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Next Generation EU funds, under the call for "Proyectos Estratégicos Orientados a la Transición Ecológica y a la Transición Digital 2021".
AIR-URBAN will conduct innovative interdisciplinary research, leveraging:
i) air pollution and quality modeling towards the ecological transition for control and reduction of traffic-related air contamination, exploiting real traffic data to increase the accuracy and time granularity of current models, and
ii) a unified edge and cloud compute continuum infrastructure upon which advanced big-data and AI analytics will be deployed and executed to generate the required knowledge for air quality models, by processing the information captured by the city IoT infrastructure, and so advance the digitalization of the mobility sector for clean and safe mobility.
AIR-URBAN will set up a real-life pilot deployed in the center of Barcelona, which will serve as an urban lab for the continuous development and validation of the projects innovative contributions.
The AIR-URBAN multidisciplinary research team from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) consists of researchers with expertise on ICT technologies and air quality modeling, which will work working together to develop novel interdisciplinary solutions for the ecological transitions and digitalization of mobility. The project has the support of the Municipal Institute of Information Technology (IMI) of the Barcelona City Council and the Immisions Section of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
