Der AKJ Automotive ist eine Gruppe von Experten und Führungskräften aus der Automobilindustrie und versteht sich als Plattform für einen offenen und vertrauensvollen Informationsaustausch zwischen allen Mitgliedern der automobilen Wertschöpfungskette (Hersteller, Lieferanten, Dienstleister).
Der Arbeitskreis hat das Ziel, Konzepte und Lösungen für die Optimierung der Prozesse und Strukturen in der Automobil- und Zulieferindustrie gemeinsam weiterzuentwickeln.
Die Abkürzung AKJ steht für "Arbeitskreis für Just-in-Time". Im Gründungsjahr des Arbeitskreises 1985 war dies als neues logistisches Konzept eine Herausforderung, auf die sich die Automobilhersteller, Zulieferer und Dienstleister einstellen mussten.
Der AKJ Automotive wurde damit als der erste branchenspezifische Arbeitskreis der GfPM - Gesellschaft für Produktionsmanagement e.V. gegründet. Mit der GfPM wurden und werden auch gemeinsame Netzwerktreffen und Kongresse durchgeführt.
