Alaska Literacy Program

Alaska Literacy Program company information, Employees & Contact Information

Alaska Literacy Program (ALP) is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to Changing Lives Through Literacy. Since 1974, we have taught adults to read, write, and speak English, helping them gain skills to secure jobs, support their children, become citizens, and navigate life in Alaska. Our classes are taught by community volunteers committed to fostering an inclusive, strong community. ALP defines literacy broadly, emphasizing skills beyond reading and writing to include digital, health, financial, and family literacy. Our goal is to empower adults to become confident and self-sufficient members of their communities. In addition to adult education, we offer our Family Literacy Program for children ages 3-5 and their parents taking classes with us. Through this approach, ALP has been able to continually lower barriers to education by providing childcare to our full time students.
