The Albury Wodonga Gift is the Border's own stake hold in the Victorian Athletics professional sprinting tour. With events throughout Melbourne & regional Victoria the tour is one of the world's most significant. The AWG - young in it's own right - was voted The Victorian Athletic Leagues’ “Meeting of the Year” in its inaugural year, a testament to the dedication not only to the AWG team, but also the support from the community. AWG is a community based event focusing largely on the involvement of local businesses and local people showcasing our region’s dynamic communities, rich sporting culture, and liveability. Athletes as young as 5 years old right up to our veteran athletes at almost 70 years of age participated in a great day of fun and competition. The participation of kids is paramount with a large contingent of junior athletes taking part in what is not only a diverse and fun environment but one in which the kids can develop their knowledge and skills in athletics. Olympians, National Champions, World Champions and Commonwealth Games representatives make for great spectator viewing. A great element to this style of racing is seeing some of Australia’s best athletes in action taking on some of the local heroes! The Fastest Footballer is becoming one of the main attractions of the event. With outstanding media coverage, the Fastest Footballer is showcasing the strength of the football codes from the region and creating some great rivalries along the way.
