Alexandria STEM School is a coed boarding 3-year high school in Alexandria, Egypt. Alexandria STEM School was established under the Egypt STEM School Project (ESSP) led by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), World Learning, and the Ministry of Education. There are 19 STEM schools across the country and they are connected in a union called the STEM community.
Offering a unique system that focuses on scientific, mathematical, and technological fields, Alexandria STEM School targets high-potential students who demonstrate strong academic skills. Taught by professors involved in post-teacher studies, the core skills and values acquired by the students throughout the curriculum emphasize and promote critical inquiry and research, problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity, and social responsibility.
Alexandria STEM School aims to provide students with a challenging environment of self-learning. Students demonstrate entrepreneurial leadership, high ethical standards, and civic engagement, regardless of their socioeconomic background. Alexandria STEM School’s rigorous program focuses on scientific, mathematical, and technological fields with the first introduction to project-based learning, which prepares students for a realistic approach to the marketplace.
The overarching goal of the school is to create a network of independent students who qualify for the highly established curriculum, engage in open discussions with trained teachers, and work in teams under the Ministry of Education's public schooling system to produce scientific projects (including research, prototype crafting, testing, sharing) that contribute in solving Egypt’s grand challenges (economic, social, agricultural, industrial) to serve Egypt’s Vision 2030.
