Alguimar plays an active part in the use and promotion of sustainable practices in the sugarcane sector, showing evidence of verifiable results and focusing on closing communication gaps between mills, research centres, farmers and government bodies. We support the creation of programmes to help farmers become active members of the supply chain in order to drive their sugarcane production towards sustainable practices. Balsora is a sugar cane production unit, located in the municipality of Candelaria wit 300 hectares planted with sugar cane with an average yield of 140 tons/ha. It is a company characterized by being a pioneer in the implementation of new developments that go along with the improvement in terms of productivity and sustainability allowing it to increase profitable and reduce the environmental and social negative impacts of the agricultural activity.
Hacienda Balsora has been a pioneer in the implementation of irrigation systems through window pipes since 1992, generating significant savings in water consumption and irrigation costs, as well as increasing crop productivity. This system is currently implemented in 30% of the crops in the geographic valley of the Cauca River. They have gradually implemented the harvest without burning, thus favoring the production of agricultural crop residues and using efficient microorganisms for their decomposition and nitrogen fixation in less time, allowing this to reduce Chemical fertilizers without diminishing production.

Es una empresa caracterizada por ser pionera en la implementación de nuevos desarrollos que van de la mano del mejoramiento en términos de productividad y sostenibilidad permitiéndole ser cada vez más rentables, reduciendo los impactos ambientales y sociales propios de la actividad agrícola.
La hacienda Balsora ha sido pionera en la implementación de sistemas de riego a través de tubería por ventana desde 1992, generando ahorros significativos en el consumo de agua y en los costos por riego además de aumentar la productividad del cultivo. Este sistema actualmente se encuentra implementado en un 30% de los cultivos del valle geográfico del río Cauca. Han implementado gradualmente la cosecha sin quemas, favoreciendo de esta manera la producción de residuos agrícolas de cosecha y utilizando microorganismos eficientes para su descomposición y fijación de nitrógeno en menor tiempo, permitiendo esto la reducción de fertilizantes químicos sin mermar la producción.
