Busking is street art—the ability to perform on the streets and in front of strangers, may it be with guitars, beatboxes, or just one's own vocal chords, cannot be understated. It takes skill, talent, and true dedication. Alipay also recognises the hassle involved with giving and collecting payment on the part of the audience members and the buskers, respectively. To show that we value and adore this live form of performance artistry, we've come up with a way to make things much more convenient on the financial front. We've launched a new technology that will be piloted by selected buskers who will receive a portable payment device. This device can be used by appreciative locals to give donations to the buskers without the inconvenience of having to search for loose change or individual bills. All they have to do is tap their cards, provide a set amount, and, that's it, donation sent! The pilot phase will run for four to six weeks—the data gathered will be used to inform the state-wide launch in the coming months. If successful in Victoria, we intend to work with buskers from all over Australia. Stay tuned to this page for updates, news, and other content regarding this project.
