Established in 2008, Alkionides UK's (Reg No. 1205188) main mission is to support disadvantaged Cypriot patients seeking medical treatment in London hospitals for treatments that cannot be offered in Cyprus by providing free accommodation, transportation and translation services. In extreme cases we sometimes offer additional financial support to cover other expenses while they are in the UK.
More recently Alkionides UK launched a new program to financially support individuals seeking undergraduate or Master's degrees at UK universities.
We also have a division in the Midlands who support patients sent there, and children with special educational needs and disabilities.
Alkionides UK is made up of dedicated volunteers who give their time and effort in order to help these families.
In February 2024 we celebrated the inauguration of our newly established permanent 'nest’ in London, a house we were able to purchase thanks to the genrous support of major donors, to ensure the services we offer continues in perpetuity. Our committee visit regularly to provide emotional support.
We raise funds with the help of generous sponsors and by organising cultural events and social functions. The charity prides itself in that all money raised is used to help the patients and their families as administrative costs are kept to an absolute minimum.
