Aman Movement Overview

The Aman Movement is a nationwide initiative dedicated to eradicating ragging and bullying in educational institutions across India. Founded in 2009 by Prof. Rajendra Kachroo, the movement emerged as a response to the tragic death of his son, Aman Satya Kachroo, a young medical student who lost his life due to ragging. In partnership with the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Aman Movement leads the National Ragging Prevention Program. The movement has successfully implemented anti-ragging helplines and institutional pledges through student affidavits, ensuring accountability and zero tolerance towards ragging in colleges. Their efforts have been instrumental in significantly reducing cases of ragging nationwide, as surveys show a drop from 12% in 2013 to 5% in 2016. Beyond policy interventions, the Aman Movement actively conducts awareness campaigns, workshops, and counseling support for students. The movement promotes not only the prevention of ragging but also mental health awareness and student welfare, encouraging institutions to adopt anti-ragging squads and safe reporting mechanisms. Driven by the belief that educational institutions should empower students, not endanger them, the Aman Movement works tirelessly to ensure that no student has to endure what Aman Kachroo did.
