AJO is NYU Journalism's 30-credit, fully remote masters degree program. Our students come from all walks of life, including professional journalists looking to enhance their skills or prepare to teach at the university level; mid-career workers who want to pivot to the journalism career they always dreamed of; and recent college graduates. What they all have in common is that they want a rigorous education and they don't want to (or can not) move to New York City to get it.
Our students attend all classes online and thus live all over the word, from Hawaii to Senegal to the UK to Vietnam. We pride ourselves on a unique student body, consisting of parents and caregivers, people living with disabilities, working professionals, and full-time students.
We encourage our students to publish while at AJO and employ a full-time dedicated career and pitching specialist to help them find places for their work - and full-time jobs. Just this year AJO students have published in Mother Jones, the Forward, NPR, Rolling Stone and Business Insider, found jobs at The US Sun, ABC and CBS News, and gotten funding for their original podcasts.
