Due to climate change, the Mediterranean region will be increasingly affected by water stress. Thus, resource efficiency and the transition to circular economy are crucial to ensure long-term sustainability of economic activities. In particular, the entire agrifood system accounts for more than 15% of the GDP in the Euro-Mediterranean, being among the lead sectors in foreign sales from the region and is one of the main water consumers. AquaLoops4Med will create an interregional network to foster an efficient and sustainable water management across the Mediterranean, with focus on the agrifood sector. The project will comprise interregional investments in the demonstration, scale-up and commercialization of innovative, sustainable and circular solutions from SMEs. The project involves four participating regions: Catalonia (ES), Basilicata (IT), Attica and Thessaly (EL) with shared and complementary S3 priorities and will have a specific focus on less developed regions.
The participants of the project are the Catalan Water Partnership, ICRA-CERCA, IRTA, AERIS, WE&B, National Technical University of Athens, AGENSO, HYDRASPIS, BIOINNOVA, Universita degli Studi Della Basilicata, Municipality of Lake Plastiras, FRESH MILK and ARPA Basilicata.
