The purpose of the primarily German-speaking association, whose activities are not for profit, is to promote interdisciplinary research, cooperation between researchers, the dissemination of knowledge and the preparation of recommendations on the organization of working hours (in particular night and shift work), their effects, dangers and the possibilities for improvement and related issues, as well as cooperation with scientific institutions and organizations and individuals pursuing similar objectives. In terms of its objectives (see statutes for details), the association is linked to its English-speaking sister organization, the Working Time Society.
