As a lifelong New Mexican and a proud daughter of an immigrant and a Hispanic veteran small business owner, I understand the challenges we face. I’m Mayling Armijo, and I’m running to be Albuquerque’s first female, minority mayor.
My commitment to fighting for the people of Albuquerque comes from my lived experience. I know about the issues and the impact of substance abuse and homelessness firsthand within my own family and have witnessed the effects of mass incarceration. These realities have shaped my passion for ensuring Albuquerque residents have the resources and opportunities they deserve.
With 20 years of experience across the private, public, and military sectors, I’ve worked behind the scenes to push for progress. As the Executive Director of the Elevated Lending Community Development Company (ELCDC), I help small businesses access the capital they need to grow and create jobs. In the public sector I served as Director of Economic Development for Bernalillo County and Deputy County Manager for Sandoval County. In the U.S. Navy Reserve, I hold the rank of Lieutenant Commander and have led teams in operations and deployments here at home and abroad.
I am not a career politician. I’m a veteran, a businessperson, and someone who genuinely cares about Albuquerque. I’m ready to lead the way to a better city—one where policies support small businesses, improve public safety, invest in education, and create opportunities for all. As a gay woman of color, I’m committed to bringing diverse perspectives into leadership to ensure every voice is heard.
