ARSENAAL/LAZARUS Overview

Sinds 2016 is er een nieuw verhaal. Het vroegere t,arsenaal, o.l.v. Michael De Cock, is omgevormd tot ARSENAAL/LAZARUS o.l.v. artistiek directeur Willy Thomas. LAZARUS vormt de ruggengraat van de nieuwe werking. Kwaliteit, toegankelijkheid, speelsheid en reële betrokkenheid op de wereld. Dat is waar we voor staan. We maken genereus en actueel theater met westerse en niet-westerse verhalen. We nodigen gasten uit die ons inspireren. En we bieden een podium aan alle Mechelaars in een groots stadsproject. LAZARUS, artistieke leiding en huisgezelschap LAZARUS zijn Günther Lesage, Joris Van Den Brande, Pieter Genard, Ryszard Turbiasz, Charlotte Vandermeersch en Koen De Graeve. LAZARUS zoekt op eigen onbeholpen houtje naar avontuur in theater. Ze vertaalt hiervoor het heden. En het verleden zoals het zich nu voordoet. En de toekomst die we dachten te hebben. Daarbij citeert LAZARUS vrijelijk uit eigen filosofische inzichten en andermans misvattingen. LAZARUS' eigengereide koers leidt tot een zo scherp mogelijke versie van het zich aandienende verhaal in een vaak satirische mix van conflict en sentiment. De theatralisering van dood en lol. Toneel van taallust. De LAZARUS-makers hebben naast een voorliefde voor de Oost-Europese literatuur -met haar koortsige ziel- ook een onlesbare dorst naar hyperhedendaagse oriëntatie. Via bruisende bewerkingen van oa Dostojewski en Gontsjarew óf hitsige compilaties van het versplinterde informatie-heelal peilen ze naar de eigen levensvatbaarheid.
