Our research aims to identify and understand how we can address access to Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Therapy (PERT) for patients with pancreatic cancer. The ASPERT team is a collaboratation between University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Cancer Symptom Trials (CST), the University of Otago Department of Medicine and Nurse Maude Hospice. We also have a multidisciplinary team with input from palliative care physicians, dietitians, surgeons, oncologists and more.
Phase 1 of our research is a consumer survey to understand the experience of patients with pancreatic cancer specifically with regard to PERT. Questions are aimed at finding out if patients know about PERT, who and how they were prescribed it, and their outcomes with regards to patient-reported reduction in symptoms or side effects.
