ASTHA-Working Towards Inclusion

One of the founding principles of ASTHA is to able to generate context driven information and disseminate it. Since inception, the idea has been to constantly engage with Persons with Disabilities and their families especially to those on the lower socio economic strata to disseminate information on habilitation & rehabilitation, legal rights and government schemes in easy to understand media. In addition to families, the organization has constantly reached out to organizations and civil society networks for trainings and capacity building through workshops and meetings. Other aspect of the disability information is towards bridging the gap between policies and practice by reaching out to local governments and other development organizations. The reaching out has contributed towards the drafting of the UNCRPD and the new draft law on persons with disabilities. Till now ASTHA has been able to touch the lives of 25000 children and their families through 17000 helpline callers and 51 community based groups. It has been able to organize 612 workshops and 118 research studies. ASTHA, at present works intensively on Early Childhood Care and Development, Inclusive Education and Life Skills Interventions for Young Adults with Disabilities. It also runs a National Disability Helpline, led by two young Person with Disabilities.
