Athleaders 360° Overview

At Athleaders 360°, we help youth sports coaches develop the skills needed to coach the next generation of socially conscious athletes. There is a deep divide between expectations of youth sports coaches and competencies of coaches. While parents, players, and community members expect coaches to have knowledge about the sport they coach, prioritize the health and safety of the players, and understand principles of youth development, only 30 percent of the 6.5 million youth coaches receive any kind of training. Sports is one of the only areas where adults are allowed to guide the development of children with no training or skills. Athleaders 360° focuses on equipping coaches with the best practices in youth development so that they can develop coaching frameworks that are child-centered, consider the full lives of their players and the communities they are from, and use principles of social justice to holistically develop their athletes. We have designed programs and initiatives that center the unique needs of youth coaches and their players and include: coach’s cohorts that provide opportunities for coaches to build a supportive community of coaches; programs that work directly with athletes to cultivate the next generation of coaches; education resources that help coaches translate their players love of sports into conversations around bias, privilege, oppression and discrimination; and advocate for policies that will standardize coaching and provide better resources for coaches.
