The Australasian Proteomics Society (APS) aims to promote and facilitate proteomics research and related topics in Australia and New Zealand. Members of the APS are drawn from academic, industry and government laboratories. The APS acts as a liaison body for communication with state and federal governments and a central point for the coordination of proteome-related programmes and resources.
Since 1996 the APS has held an annual scientific symposium each February in Lorne, Victoria, as our flagship meeting. This draws together over 250 delegates from the Australasian region and international invited keynote speakers. We run pre-conference workshops on topical subjects, often delivered by international experts. The annual meeting is well-known for its high-quality science delivered in a relaxed atmosphere and a vibrant social program. At this meeting, scientific vendors play an important role with updates on new instrumentation, workflows, and consumables necessary to advance proteomic research. APS meetings contain symposia dedicated to these topics to recognise the importance of other 'omics techniques.
The APS, together with other learned societies, co-organises local, national and international meetings within the region, as well as workshops and other forums for the exchange of proteomics advances and techniques. Examples include APS’s hosting of the 2019 HUPO world congress in Adelaide and regional HUPO meetings. APS highly values the involvement of student members (SoAPS - Students of Australasian Proteomics Society) and offers financial support through low-cost registration, travelling fellowships, and scientific awards. Our annual meeting has a dedicated session for oral presentations from student members.
