The Australian Hepatitis C Point-of-Care Testing (HCVPOCT) Program is a nationwide initiative led by The Kirby Institute at UNSW Sydney and Flinders University International Centre for Point-of-Care Testing, funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health.
The program aims to scale up rapid, on-the-spot Hepatitis C RNA testing in healthcare settings that support people at high risk of HCV infection. As the first program of its kind globally, it provides critical data on the impact of point-of-care testing on treatment uptake, helping to reduce HCV prevalence in Australia.
With a broad reach across priority populations, including people who inject or have injected drugs, those in custodial settings, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, the program is a key step toward Hepatitis C elimination.
