Autistic woman and teens are completely under served, traumatized, usually misdiagnosed, and often experience co-morbid conditions including anxiety, depression, and various health challenges. In addition, their autistic traits are often exhibited in an intense way due to trauma and stress, such as a higher degree of sensory sensitivities, meltdowns, attention deficit, obsessiveness, a greater need to regulate, and burnout. They frequently feel isolated, lack a sense of self, that something wrong with them and they don’t fit in anywhere. Also, the experience of being diagnosed is often highly anxiety provoking with in-depth testing and interviews and some still leave without a diagnosis because of masking.
I’m a psychotherapist specializing in autism. I developed a program to provide neurodivergent-affirming support with diagnostics, individual sessions, small virtual support groups, and a new, coming this summer, membership site. It will be very accessible at $15 per month. It will start with topic discussion groups, and Q and A’s where I and other participants can offer information and support. As this community expands, it will include different types of support options and incorporate feedback from the members. Examples include “co-working” meetups to provide support and motivation to each other to get mundane tasks done, such as cleaning, cooking, and decluttering. And topic and interest discussion groups where members meet virtually with others who have similar interests.
