Chicago, 1996: Bagel Bakery-Gründer Christian Kiefer sitzt auf der Terrasse eines Snack-Restaurants und genießt ein frisches Bagel-Sandwich. Sofort ist sein Herz für die extravagante Teigkreation entflammt. Er fragt sich, warum es so ein gutes Produkt nicht in Deutschland gibt. Und beschließt, den Bagel auch in seiner Heimat berühmt zu machen.
Er lernt die original amerikanischen Herstellungsverfahren in Bagel-Bäckereien in New York, New Jersey und Chicago. Und feiert schon bald Erfolge: Im Sommer 2000 eröffnet die Bagel Bakery in Zeitz.
