Basique was founded as a creative outlet for its founders Belle Ditthavong and Yanis Caillaud. Having met at a preppy private high school located in Virginia where having style was defined by Abercrombie & Fitch monogram hoodies, Ralph Lauren polos and short khaki skirts, Basique is an exploration and consequent reinterpretation of the fashion that defined that period in their lives. Both having a background in fashion history, Basique’s design ethos aims to reinterpret preppy private school wear with influences from the short hemlines and geometric silhouettes of the 1960s and 70s youthquake movements.
