BaysideML was a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of the 600,000 people living in Melbourne’s southern suburbs.
BaysideML ceased operations on 30 June 2015. Responsibility for coordination of primary care services in the region has passed to www.semphn.org.au
As part of a national network of MLs, Bayside ML sought to improve the planning, integration and coordination of primary health care services. These are the health services that people turn to first – GPs, dentists, pharmacists, physiotherapists, dieticians, nurses, psychologists and other primary health professionals who practice outside hospital.
By improving the links between some 5000 health professionals between Port Melbourne and Patterson Lakes, BaysideML aimed to help turn around a crisis-driven health system towards more health prevention and early intervention.
A lot of our work involved partnering with others to keep people well and out of hospital by tackling emerging issues, such as the need for more mental health services and for real time information about what medical services are open ‘right now’ that can be accessed from a smart phone.
