Benrus Watch Co

Benrus Company started in 1921 as a repair shop in New York City. The owner is Benjamin Lazrus, who is a Romanian born who migrated to the United States. From his humble repair shop, he has ventured in the manufacture of watchcases. You’ll notice that some people refer to Benrus as a Swiss company while others say it an American company. This may be because; at sometime in 1923, he also rented one floor of a factory located in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The year 1970 was a challenging year for the making industry, in order to stay in business; Benrus offered the cheaper movement and ladies movements in their watches. The competition, created by these cheap electric watches, hurt everyone including Benrus. By the mid to late 70's Benrus Incorporated was a diversified manufacturer of a number of consumer products. Companies included: Benrus Co. - Watches, Wells, Inc. - Jewelry, and Destino, Ltd. - Christian Dior Products. An attempt to consolidate all the various manufacturing enterprises under one roof proved to be a much more expensive move than anyone calculated, and a final blow to the company which subsequently filed bankrupt in 1977. In 2010, one of our shareholders bought the Benrus Mark and we decided to restart the company in Luxembourg on october 2012. The rebirth of a legend is on the way ...
