Berjaya Land Berhad (BLand) was established in 1990 as part of the Restructuring Scheme initiated by Sports Toto Berhad (SPToto), wherein BLand acquired the entire paid-up capital of SPToto. Concurrently, BLand expanded its portfolio through significant acquisitions in property and leisure activities, funded by a Rights and Special Issue. SPToto, originally founded by the Malaysian Government in 1969 for Toto betting, was privatized in 1985 when Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, the CEO, acquired a 70% stake. Listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange in July 1987, SPToto later became a subsidiary of RekaPacific in November 1987. Further developments saw Berjaya Group Berhad (BGroup) acquiring Teras Mewah Sdn Bhd in October 1996, leading to BLand becoming a direct subsidiary of BGroup, ultimately under the ownership of Berjaya Corporation Berhad (BCorp). The group's diverse activities encompass gaming and lottery management, hotels, resorts, recreation development, vacation timeshare, property investment, development, and motor retailing.
