About Boys & Girls Clubs of Durham and Orange Counties
Boys & Girls Clubs of Durham and Orange Counties serves the mission of inspiring and enabling all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. BGCDOC meet critical needs in our community by addressing gaps in access to resources and relationships. That's why: • Our membership fees are intentionally low. According to the Afterschool Alliance (2022), 83% of parents/guardians report that afterschool programs allow them to keep their jobs. The annual membership fee is just $10 per child for a year of programming. • We provide after-school transportation, so parents can stay at work and not have to deal with the logistical headache. • Our Clubs serve youth between the ages of 6 and 18. Many members stay with us from the time they enter kindergarten to the time they graduate high school. This allows them to “grow up” in our Clubs while receiving consistent support, making lifelong friends, and developing positive skills. • Our targeted, evidence-based programs are intentionally designed to “level the playing field” and help youth build great futures. BGCDOC is not just a place to go after school; we are a place to grow, learn, and thrive. • Our caring staff serve as mentors and build quality relationships with the youth and families we serve. Members often tell us the Club is their second family and home. That is because Club staff create an inclusive, nurturing environment, built on trusted relationships. We rely on a research-based Formula for Impact to make sure our members reach their full potential. This Formula states that when youth who need us most attend the Club regularly, receive the elements of positive youth development, and participate in targeted programs – focused on education, art, leadership, sports & recreation, workforce readiness, and health & wellness – they will achieve three priority outcomes: Academic Success, Good Character and Leadership, and Healthy Lifestyles.
