I’m Karl Rogerson, Director of Billesley Research School and I warmly welcome you to our LinkedIn page.The Research School was born out of my passion for education, and it has served as a vehicle through which to communicate that passion. Billesley Research School demonstrates how evidence can support school improvement for disadvantaged pupils. We help educational leads make sense of this and, as there is much good practice now in evidence, we want to show it to other schools. We are on a search for answers in helping to close the disadvantage gap on the understanding that, by working together, we will make better decisions and provide better outcomes. In terms of my own personal journey which led to directorship of the Research School, growing up, I was thankful for having educational opportunities presented to me, notably access to University. Following this, as a teacher in Aston, Birmingham, I worked with educational leaders who were real role models, and who showed me what could be done to improve educational inequality. The experience I gained working in this environment engendered a sense of passion and purpose for helping pupils which was, in turn, reflected in the pupils’ appreciation for transforming their lives. Moving to Billesley Primary School as Principal, I reflected on my journey so far and the importance of teaching combined with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health awareness. I looked at the evidence I was presented with, decided there was a lot that needed to be done to improve educational opportunities, and I wanted to share this journey with my colleagues and allow them to contribute to it. In terms of how the Research School can benefit Evidence Leads in Education (ELEs) and their professional development, we facilitate engagement with research by guiding delegates and walking them through the processes. We aim to build a relationship of trust and openness with them, providing support in their implementation of educational improvement plans.
