BLOC Fresno is a professional networking group for African American's and its supporters in the Central Valley. BLOC Fresno has been meeting at least once per month since September 2016, but is ramping up to create more engagement opportunities for our professional community. Here are ways to get involved with BLOC Fresno:
1. Monthly Networking Mixers – This is an opportunity for professionals to meet after work and hear about events are coming up through BLOC and throughout the community. These professionals can also sign up to be part of sub-committees and volunteer for upcoming events.
Monthly Lunch Connects – Because evening mixers are not always a viable option, Lunch Connects allow professionals to break bread, seek resources and learn about events coming up within the Central Valley.
2. Philanthropic Giving and Events – BLOC Fresno will be hosting multiple events throughout the year to help raise funds for the organization, but mainly to fund scholarships for high school and college students. A large project that is currently in talks is the establishment of an endowment for African American students as Fresno State. BLOC Fresno’s scholarship fundraiser will be our first annual Alpha Phi Alpha 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament.
3. Mentorship Program – The mentorship program is a huge piece of BLOC Fresno. Professionals and Students will both submit applications to participate in a mentorship program that will pair an individual from each group together. The expectation for the student and mentor is to maintain consistent communication where the onus of maintaining communication falls more on the mentor. Students can easily become overwhelmed with life. The mentor is there to build trust, offer resources, listen, engage, and connect with their mentee.
4. Education – Educating our community about resources, programs and events that affect our community. BLOC Fresno will have a website with blog posts and a community calendar that’s accessible to the public.
