Blue Green Advisory Overview

Bringing climate & nature positive solutions, at sea and on land, to life. Currently, I'm focused on supporting the commercial development of the UK/EU seaweed sector and solutions for a healthy, climate and nature positive future for people and our planet. Specifically I'm currently working for a Welsh, peer-to-peer/community funded, regenerative ocean seaweed and shellfish farm, to demonstrate how/whether we can create rewarding, impactful local coastal jobs, growing native seaweeds to produce 100% nature-based extracts that can be used by any land farmers/growers to: • restore soil health and fertility, and • improve the nutrient density of the foods they grow, and • have a climate and nature positive impact, and importantly • improve their own livelihoods and wellbeing, by reducing their reliance on costly synthetic fertilisers and other agrocehmicals. So far, we’re underway with some farm trials that are being funded by the Co-op Foundation and we have support from influential organisations like Farming Connect (with a membership of ~8,000 Welsh farmers). I’m also working with a new, innovative, Dutch, seaweed biotech company that designed the low temperature, zero chemical, nutrient & mineral extraction process, that we are using in Wales and we are exploring how we can contribute to the EU Mission Soil's healthy soil goals and help farmers/growers respond to the ever increasing number of change drivers (e.g. 25% EU agricultural land under organic management by 2030). I've also got lots going on in terms of the role of seaweed in tackling nutrient management and water quality issues and how improvements in soil quality can be a cost effective natural flood management solution.
