BNIX is the Belgian Internet eXchange (IXP), a platform that enables Internet service providers (ISPs), content providers, hosting and cloud providers or companies to exchange data traffic between their autonomous system networks (AS), thanks to mutual agreements called "peering". The platform supports both IPv4 and IPv6.
BNIX was set up in 1995 by Belnet, the Belgian National Research and Education Network.
BNIX’ mission is to contribute to the sustainability and development of the local Internet. Exchanges between BNIX participants do not go through foreign infrastructure, but remain in Belgium and as such the speed and quality of the IP traffic are optimized.
BNIX is also a founding member of the European Internet Exchange Association (Euro-IX).
