BOUF was the UK and Europe's first online marketplace for designer-makers and boutique brands. BOUF was the go-to place to discover and sell "products with a twist", and developed a strong niche particularly in the Home & Garden, decorative accessories and unique gifts categories.
Founded in 2007 by Alex Griffin, after he was enlightened during a trip to Spitalfields market in East London. After speaking with the broad array of quirky vendors, he decided their lives and the lives of their customers would be made easier if brought together online.
BOUF was highly curated, yet onboarded thousands of quality manufacturers and vendors found at leading trade shows across Europe. This traction attracted funding from the founders of Passion Capital, Playfair Capital and various other high-profile European investors, and won various awards including the Metro Venture Candy £50k award, before it was acquired by Sanoma, PLC in 2015.
