Established in 1982, the British Cleaning Council (BCC) is the authoritative, collective voice of the UK’s cleaning, hygiene and waste management industries, which combined employs 1.49m people and contributes nearly £67b to the nation's economy. The council’s membership is made up of 21 trade and membership associations. From contract cleaning to waste management, pest control to housekeeping, chemical suppliers to wheelie-bin washers, manufacturers of cleaning and hygiene products to environmental health, healthcare cleaning to domestic cleaning and waste, recycling and litter – the BCC coordinates, campaigns and supports the affairs of the UK’s entire commercial cleaning ecosystem. The BCC also co-produces the world-renowned Cleaning Show, which alternates between London and Manchester, and was also the secretariat for the former All Party Parliamentary Group for the Cleaning and Hygiene Industry. The BCC also led on the development of the UK Cleaning Career Development Zone (www.ukcleaning.org.uk), which features a wealth of training, education and career development opportunities in the cleaning and hygiene sector.
