BEC started operations in Puerto Rico in May 2005 focusing on the island’s extensive pharmaceutical and medical devices manufacturing market. The company is headed by its founder and president, Pepe Rodriguez-Perez, a PhD in biological sciences with post-graduate studies in medical sciences. He spent over 15 years working in the FDA-regulated manufacturing business and was a professor in the graduated program of the Industrial Engineering department of the Puerto Rico Polytechnic University. He was a Science Advisor for the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from 2009 to 2012. He is the author of four best-selling books covering FDA topics, all of them published by the American Society for Quality: CAPA FOR THE FDA-REGULATED INDUSTRY (2010), QUALITY RISK MANAGEMENT IN THE FDA-REGULATED INDUSTRY (2012) AND THE FDA & WORLDWIDE CURRENT GOOD MANUFACTURING PRACTICES AND QUALITY SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS GUIDEBOOK FOR FINISHED PHARMACEUTICALS (2014), HUMAN ERROR REDUCTION IN MANUFACTURING (September 2018).
