Caerlaverock is perhaps best known for its castle, which is one of the finest and best preserved 13th century curtain walled castles in Britain – constructed in a unique triangular shape, and surrounded by ancient woodland aside the shores of the Solway Firth. The Estate is privately owned and has remained within the same family for more than 800 years. Over many generations, the Estate has focused on community, environmental stewardship, heritage and culture. Under the guidance of its present owner, it continues to do so to this day.
