Vision and mission
Canada’s leadership in carbon solutions is key to its role in the fight against climate change.
The Canadian Carbon Solutions Coalition is uniting industry, government, academia, and First Nations by fostering collaboration and promoting understanding. It is catalyzing new partnerships and progress by facilitating dialogue, promoting understanding and enabling the adoption of carbon solutions.
We support and bring together decarbonization technologies, including those that remove, capture, store, transform, or utilize carbon.
Why carbon solutions?
Widespread support for carbon solutions, whether small-scale or large-scale, can help accelerate their development and drive down costs, as has been seen with the scale-up of solar and wind power, electric vehicle manufacturing, and the production of batteries.
At the 2023 COP28 UN Climate Change Conference, the definitive and unanimous stocktake document that emerged after days of all-night negotiation sessions endorsed "[a]ccelerating zero- and low-emission technologies, including, inter alia, renewables, nuclear, abatement and removal technologies such as carbon capture and utilization and storage, particularly in hard-to-abate sectors, and low-carbon hydrogen production".
Carbon solutions are about more than just carbon capture and storage – there is much more to come. This diverse portfolio will provide more flexibility and resilience in addressing climate change, where over-reliance on a single approach would increase risk. All solutions are needed to address climate change effectively, including new technologies that prevent, remove, transform, store, transport and utilize carbon.
