Capoeira Social Project is a nonprofit educational organization. Our mission is to give underprivileged youth (ages 7-18), in Baltimore and Belo Horizonte Brazil, a chance to discover and develop their talents. We focus on providing instruction of capoeira not simply as sport, but as part of the Afro-Brazilian heritage. Our students descend into the world of capoeira, defined not only by martial arts, but also by instrumental music and singing, the woes of history, the joys of carnivals and festivals, and of course the Portuguese language. We are also providing out of class tutoring in Mathematics, art, reading, writing and other school subjects.
Our training empowers youth to be intelligent and resourceful, strong and agile, and most importantly self-aware and self-confident. By acquiring these vital qualities students have an opportunity to succeed in life.
Current fundraising efforts are happening to obtain a training studio and classroom space for expansion of services provided. Future purpose of Capoeira Social Project will be to provide additional social services to the youth participants.
Capoeira Social Project is a registered tax-deductible non-profit organization under the IRS Section 501(c)(3) guidelines.
