Carer Support West Cumbria

Carer Support West Cumbria is a registered charity that provides support to unpaid carers who look after a family member, relative, friend or neighbour who could not manage without their help. This could be due to age, physical or mental illness, addiction or learning difficulty. There are an estimated 18,000 unpaid carers in West Cumbria alone. Ages range from as young as 5 years old! Many carers: - live in poverty as caring prevents them from securing paid work, however a lot have no choice but to work, so are working in addition to carrying out a caring role - often have significant health problems themselves due to the physical demands of the care they undertake - can experience low self-esteem and depression due to the isolation - lose contact with their friends and social support networks as a result of the hours of care they provide Registered charity number 1119369
