Childcare Stress Project

Childcare Stress Project company information, Employees & Contact Information

The Childcare Stress Project is a research and impact project focused on defining and improving childcare stress, through the development of a place-based childcare stress index. A Place-Based Childcare Stress Index will provide policymakers with a robust tool to identify priority areas, allocate resources effectively, guide investment in the early childhood education and care sector, and design more equitable early childhood education and care policies. Childcare stress in Western Sydney exposes structural inequities in access to high-quality and affordable early learning in one of the country’s most diverse and rapidly growing regions. When ECEC systems fail to meet the needs of families, it entrenches intergenerational injustice, limits women’s workforce participation, and affects children’s development. Measuring childcare stress through a place-based lens enables more equitable and targeted policy responses that reflect the realities of diverse communities and geographies. This project brings together researchers from Western Sydney University, University of New South Wales, and Monash University. This project is supported by the James Martin Institute for Public Policy.
