Cinnamon Cinema is the University of Michigan’s first and largest cross-cultural film organization, founded by friends who share a passion for creating short films. We take inspiration from current events on campus, in our lives, and in society to produce original films. Our goal is not only to want the voice of Chinese movies to have a presence on the campus but also to create a mutual understanding and discussion topic of the messages conveyed through our movies for our viewers.
Just like the concept of “Open to different voices,” Cinnamon Cinema wishes to spread our own voice through a wide range of film styles. Through our first short film called “How Are You,” we showed the reality of the lives of international students, depicting an accurate image of international students to others. Then, in our second short film named “I’ve Been,” we found inspiration from societal issues to encourage viewers to reflect and raise awareness about the matter. Moving forward in the new school year, we wish to explore different concepts and perspectives through other genres, such as sitcoms, music videos or longer movies. Cinnamon Cinema also publishes self-written movie reviews and recommendations, encourages script calls, and shares bloopers for audiences to understand the fun and entertaining behind-the-scenes process of producing a movie.
Cinnamon Cinema is made up of those with years of experience producing, acting, and directing and those skilled in marketing, writing, producing music, and editing. We currently have around 55+ members. Even though we have a professional side when working, we also strive to have fun while filming and producing.
