Civitas Architecture Inc. is a team of experienced architects and landscape architects that focus on design projects that lead to built work. We offer high-quality consulting services to support the full project cycle from planning and design through to construction administration and commissioning. We pursue projects that challenge us, are meaningful to the communities we live in, and promote environmental sustainability. We align ourselves with clients that share these values.
Our History
The firm was founded by Douglas Rancier OAA, Principal Architect in 1996 and incorporated in 2001. In 2008, the consulting practice was expanded to offer services in Landscape Architecture. Diane Matichuk OALA, AAPQ, Principal Landscape Architect joined the firm bringing over 20 years of landscape architecture practice in municipal government and private sector consulting firms.
We practice integrated design services under the name, Civitas Group, Architecture & Landscape Architecture which reflects our commitment to integrated design. All business transactions operate under the name Civitas Architecture Inc.
Our Practice
Civitas has an extensive and diverse portfolio executed as Prime Consultant, including award-winning design projects, implemented across Ottawa, Gatineau, and eastern Ontario. Our projects range from small renovations to several complex design projects up to $29M in construction value. Our core client base is government and public institutional organizations at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels and more recently we have been progressively increasing our involvement in commercial and residential development projects.
Our work space is in the Wellington West neighbourhood at 203-6 Hamilton Avenue, Ottawa K1Y 4R1 in a heritage building that was the former Capital Wire Cloth Factory.
